» Project Manager

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Education:

  • Graduate from both a secondary and a post-secondary institution (mandatory)
  • Graduate from a university program related to earth sciences, engineering, or project management (preferred)

Occupational Certification:

  • Project Management Professional (preferred)
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (preferred)

Experience:


Candidates are to clearly demonstrate in their resume a minimum of 5 years of experience in the following areas:
  • Developing project plans and related baseline documents (work breakdown structure, schedule, time-phased budget) for complex projects
  • The direct responsibility of carrying out consulting contracts related to the provision of project management services
  • The review and interpretation of environmental reports for the purposes of understanding the contamination conditions of a property and how this relates to the implementation of a remediation solution.
  • Acting as an owner's representative to prepare solicitation documents and administer contracts for various procurement methods (requests for proposal for consulting services, tenders for construction contracts, and design-build solicitations)
  • In business development and interacting successfully with Clients;

Knowledge:

  • Of the Project Management Body of Knowledge published by the Project Management Institute;
  • Of the engineering design, tender, and construction management processes and related contractual conditions for a variety of remediation technologies;
  • Of environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines related to contaminated sites in Canada;

Abilities:

  • To lead multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of assessment and remediation projects by developing an achievable project plan and controlling the scope, budget, schedule, and quality of the work during execution to meet or exceed client expectations;
  • To prepare analogous or 'top-down' estimates and detailed 'bottom-up' construction cost estimates for cost validation purposes at various design stages
  • To prepare detailed schedules for complex projects by working with a large project team
  • To prepare a control estimate and a control schedule and to monitor and report on progress against these baseline documents
  • To communicate project risks effectively with Clients and Stakeholders and to manage and control risks and contract changes;
  • To work effectively with various computer software applications such as spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or similar), project management and scheduling (Microsoft Project, Primavera 6, or similar),

Work Environment:

Work is primarily in an office environment with frequent travel to client offices within the National Capital Area. Travel to project sites or client offices in other parts of Canada is to be expected.

» Project Controls Officer

Education:

  • Graduate from both a secondary and a post-secondary institution (mandatory)
  • Graduate from a university program related to earth sciences, engineering, or project management (preferred)

Occupational Certification:

  • Project Management Professional (preferred)
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (preferred)

Experience:

Candidates are to clearly demonstrate in their resume experience in the following areas:
  • Monitoring construction activities at a project site
  • Progress reporting, such as schedule and financial variance from a baseline plan
  • Previous experience in carrying out consulting services related to the provision of project management services or environmental services

Knowledge:

  • Of the Project Management Body of Knowledge published by the Project Management Institute
  • Of environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines related to contaminated sites in Canada
  • Of health and safety legislation

Abilities:

  • To understand a control estimate and a control schedule and to monitor and report on progress against these baseline documents
  • To effectively communicate with a large project team within several organizations and geographic areas
  • To work effectively with various computer software applications such as spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or similar), project management and scheduling (Microsoft Project, Primavera 6, or similar)
